Valley of Fire

My annual fall road trip from Jamestown to Austin was 15 days and 2300 miles in 2013.   A loose plan allowed for avoiding snow (but missing Santa Fe) and for the most part, staying ahead of the horrible wind that hit the southwest.  The best part about quick overnights are usually the sunrises and sunsets, or in the case of the Valley of Fire this trip, the moon set.

I arrived in time for a casual walk through a few of my favorite places.....

.....the Beehives.....

.....and Arch Rock.....

Even this late in the year it's hot, so I was happy to get my favorite camp with afternoon shade.  (This is a morning shot though!)

And then the moon was setting behind the red rocks........
