Main Street Sculpture

Marble Falls (about 45 minutes west of Austin) has this really cool program that allows artists to display their work along the old Main Street.  Every year or so they change out the art works.  I wanted to see what was new before I head back to CA next week.

The most striking new (to me) piece is this dragon fly on the Uptown Theater.  (I like the reflection of the wing in the window too).

This horse is created from ‘found’ objects.  It would be fun to  spend some time identifying all the different pieces.  Love the wrench that acts as a part of the foundation for the whole work.

Finally, unrelated to this post,  but interesting to me,  there was a grassland fire along Highway 290 ….. on the 30th of January!

Sunny Day at McKinney

Rock climbing,  hopping over puddles and collecting shells (fresh water clams?) was the best fun at McKinney this afternoon for Grandma, Mama, and Pai.

Traffic Signs

The neighbors on this street got together to create signs to try to slow down the speedy drivers.  There are duck crossings, bird crossings, and pig crossings too.  Hope it works.

Mueller Lake Park

There’s a cool park on the site of the old Mueller Airport (along with a housing development :).  It’s just off Airport Blvd near I 35.  Looks like the area is being built in phases.  Some houses have been there long enough to have established trees.  Other areas have roads and sidewalks, no homes.  And on the Manor Road side, still open fields.

I wonder what the plans are for the air traffic control tower besides sending holiday greetings?

The lake functions as part of the watershed runoff system.  There are almost 5 miles of trail,  picnic areas, play grounds, and many excellent interpretive signs.

It’s actually a park within a ‘green belt’ so much of the area is native vegetation while specific areas are developed for multi-uses.

Driving by on Manor Road I didn’t know about the park.  What first caught my eye (and peaked by curiosity) was a giant spider sculpture.

But first, near a parking area I found these…….

….and then along the trail was the spider.

I swear I didn’t see that raised leg when I snapped the first picture!
